A photo I took at the celebration of the graduation of the Class of 2006. I like the celebration theme.
I am one of those annoying persons who makes New Year's Resolutions. Actually, I make resolutions all year long, but they always seem a little more meaningful around my birthday (which I recently celebrated) and/or the start of a new year.
I can't say that I'm great about maintaining those resolutions. I can't tell you the number of years that "LOSE WEIGHT!" has topped the resolution list (probably hundreds...) Usually that resolution went by the wayside fairly early on.
So, it probably comes as no surprise that my 2007 resolutions had to do with weight loss. As if that area isn't difficult enough for me, I threw in "resolving in one way or the other" some of my more difficult personal relationships for good measure.
I am happy to report that the weight loss thing actually turned out pretty well in 2007. I'm not sure of actual pounds lost, but the jeans fit better than they have ever have. I'm certainly not where I want to be, but I'm a helluva lot closer than I was this time last year. I have to laugh when I'm asked "How did you do it?"
Well, I walk... a lot. Many thanks to Lisa and Jeni for their unflagging walking support.
As far as the actual diet. I ate a lot of Lean Cuisine pizzas... Trust me, they aren't Pizza King by any stretch of the imagination, but they do the job when I gots to be havin' my pizza!
The relationship front has seen its share of ups and downs. There has been some progress... Without going into too much detail, I'll just continue slogging (isn't that a great word?) along in the area. Who knows? Maybe 2008 will be my break-though year.
As I consider of some of the other accomplishments of 2007, I am really kind of amazed at what a great year this has turned out to be. And of course... most of these things weren't anything I'd considered as I planned my 2007 resolutions. Plain and simple, they were gifts from God.
Just a few of the highlights in 2007... (Basically what I could remember in a hurry!)
Opening my heart, mind, and soul to explore my spirituality like never before...
Traveling to San Diego to visit my sister and her partner
Traveling to Chicago and staying in Chinatown
Visiting the Art Institute in Chicago
Moving to a new home in a new city
Attending new AA meetings
Learning more about Reiki and
actually participating in a healing session
Becoming a certified hospice volunteer
Launching Presence of Mind... and finding out that, lo and behold, people are actually reading it!
Creating all kinds of new art (and the willingness to share it.) There are those among us who will understand my saying that 2007 was the year of the Mardi Gras beads!
Attending a lecture by Deepak Chopra
Seeing Ryan Adams in concert
Mirror Messages (more about that in another post...)
I can't wait to see what 2008 has in store...
