Have had an amazing last few days. So much to be grateful for. I'm sure I'll elaborate more later, but for now... thank you for visiting. Sending the blessings your way.
1. Roadtrips - I seem to have been on the road a lot lately. I love to drive... and while I drive I also love to listen to XM music, make really poor food choices, and marvel at the brilliance that is America from behind the wheel of a Dodge Intrepid. The only thing that makes a roadtrip better is traveling with a dear friend- especially one who will laugh and eagerly comply when you ask her to pose in front of the convenience store hot dog sign! (To be determined upon permission whether I can display that photo or not!) We had such a blast!
2. Chicago- I've been there countless times when I was a kid, (trapped with the parents and two brothers and two sisters in a Rambler station wagon to visit our Chicago Grandma), to numerous Chicago Cubs games as an adult (although my enthusiasm for the game has certainly diminished since they traded Todd Walker... I'm kidding... still love the Cubbies!) but I haven't really ever had the opportunity to just meander about the city without a real purpose. So, that's what we did did. I really love Chicago. The city just has so much energy...
3. Chinatown - What a treat! The colors, the sounds, the people... the food! It was all incredibly intoxicating... I'm guessing my trip was probably the closest I'll get to China... (unless of course David hooks it up for us with his Dad's retirement plans! Oh yes, David, we both totally heard that offhand comment you made and of course we're counting on it!)
* This is David's blog. He's smart, funny, and an awesome travel companion. The only thing better than David is David's Nana. She graciously opened her home to two crazy caucasian women old enough to be her dear grandson's mother (Ok, ok, ONE of them old enough...) without blinking an eye. She plied us with food and showed us the best of hospitality. Did I mention she plied us with food?
4. The Art Institute - I needed a back-up disk for my brain because my hard drive was completely overwhelmed with the paintings, photographs, sculpture, colors, textures, thoughts and ideas and I just know won't be able to remember nearly everything I saw in that magical building. I'd like to share more about that later though. If you haven't visited for awhile... do it.
5. The ELevated train - I've mastered another city's local transportation system! Woo-hoo! (Oh if I could only go back and try Montreal's underground rail system, I know I wouldn't chicken out again!)
6. The weather - Warm, sunshiny days with a nice breeze. Cool enough to wear jeans and be comfortable...
7. Jean Ann's world famous breaded tenderloins at Nick's Place in Huntington, IN. She claims Nick was the one who kicked off the Indiana tradition of breaded tenderloins by making the first. An even better location to enjoy the tenderloin is on a picnic table at the Huntington Reservoir.
8. Scooter rides - Scooter rides on warm, sunshiny days with a good friend rock.
9. Defending Your Life - I can't recommend this movie enough. Such a great idea for a movie.
10. Generosity - (I've got a two-fer for this one...)
a. Friends who treat you to a nice red-meat dinner... How cool is that? (Good food, good company, always an inspiration.)
b. My aunt recently parted with some of her jewelry. The best part? She parted some of it to me! I haven't been this excited since the Christmas we got tricycles! Needless to say, I unpacked the jewelry box- ooohing and ahhhhing as I lovingly examined each piece. (and as I type this, I am sporting a pair of new earrings and a very cool bracelet!)
